Speed Reading Review

Last week, I participated in another successful Speed Reading event, hosted by Carrie Miura of the_alignment_collective. This time, we gathered at The Wicked Wolf in Long Beach, a cool bar with a chill urban vibe and some truly excellent craft cocktails.

This is how Speed Reading works: six readers, each with a different specialty, are stationed around the room. Six attendees start at one station, receive a reading, and then move on to the next. By the end of the evening, everyone gets six different readings, from astrology to pendulum, mediumship to tarot. It's a lot of fun, and the readings are always insightful and meaningful. Much like at a concert, there's something about a communal setting that really steps up the vibe. We had three waves of participants and were reading strong from 6:30 p.m. to well after 11 p.m.

My role was the resident astrologer. In the weeks leading up to the event, I received everyone’s birth data, which allowed me to cast and review their charts beforehand. With 18 charts to get through, my goal was to make a meaningful connection with each person. I focused on key elements like sect, annual profections for this year and next, and an evaluation of which planetary modes were easiest, most difficult, or mixed for them. I also looked at upcoming eclipses and any unique features, like a fixed star conjunction or a very twilight morning sunrise, to give them a sense of how these things might manifest in their lives. It was fulfilling to hear how everyone responded to the interpretations and experienced these planetary conditions.

In such a fast-paced environment, the readings had a raw and vibrant energy once we got to talk with each other. A few of the attendees were already laughing through their tears as they moved from the tarot reader's table to mine. At my table, we talked about how the astrological movements of the last twelve months—eclipses in Virgo and Pisces, Pluto’s ingress into Aquarius, the Neptune/Saturn conjunction, and Uranus in Gemini, to name a few—had affected our lives. We are all on this planet together, experiencing these things to some degree, but each person's life is also uniquely fitted to their individual chart.

This was my first live astrology gig, and I had a great time. I felt a sense of pride in arriving at a place in my skills and experience where I could offer insight and depth through this discipline. The art of astrology is rich with the ability to illuminate the past, present, and future with clarity and wisdom. I find it strange, yet perfect, that I'm doing this work now. I simply followed my heart and found myself here.

The next event is in Hollywood in August. Tickets are still available; you can check my events page for details. It's funny that I finally get to play a "gig" on Sunset Boulevard, and it's as a mystical, rather than a musical, artist. The feeling of doing this work is so similar to performing—it's a way of connecting to the world, and I'm in awe that this is the case.
