The Gaze of the Hegemon: From Defying the Eclipse to Becoming It

In my recent reflections, we’ve looked at the active eclipse symbolism in world news and the "Lunar Rhetoric" of power—the way names like "lunatic" and the shadow of blackouts are used to push dissent into the dark. As I contemplate why this is happening, I find myself thinking back to a strange, meme-tastic and quasi-mythic moment from our recent past: a moment of challenging the Sun itself.

The Unprotected Gaze: A Ritual in the Light

Do you remember August 21, 2017? It was the "Great American Eclipse." While the rest of the country wore protective glasses, President Trump stood on the Truman Balcony and looked directly into the sun. I remember the frantic plea of an aide—"Don't look!"—and the way he ignored it.

At the time, many called it a gaffe. But as an astrologer and a person who watches the patterns of history, it feels like something deeper—a ritualistic assertion of "divine right." In ancient lore, a king who gazes at the sun without flinching is declaring that his vision is absolute. He is saying that his authority is not dimmed by natural law; he is the law.

I don’t say this to grant "merit" to such choices. History is full of asinine and tyrannical choices made by characters of all kinds. Myth is not always about being "good" or "smart"; it is simply about how power sees itself and plays itself out.

This eclipse occurred at approximately 28° Leo, very close to the fixed star Regulus. This is right where the orange faced felon’s natal ascendant at 29° Leo and Mars at 26° are.

The Ancestry of the Unblinking Eye

This "Eagle-King" defiance echoes three very old, archetypes:

  • The Biological Proof: Pliny the Elder once wrote that the sea-eagle tests its chicks by forcing them to stare at the sun. Those who blink are "bastards" and cast out; those who stand firm are reared as true heirs.

  • The Monopoly on Truth: Pharaoh Akhenaten claimed he was the only one who truly knew the Sun. By gatekeeping the light, the sovereign decides who may benefit from power and who is "fringe."

  • The Lost Radiance (Khvarenah): I recently read, in ancient Persia, there was a concept called Khvarenah—a solar halo that radiated from a just king. The tragedy of the "Night Iran Went Dark" on January 8 implies that by using a blackout to mask violence, the state "blinked." They turned toward "The Lie" (Druj) and forfeited their own divine radiance. I am not an expert in this area, and the apparent correlation peaks my interest for further study.

From Defiance to Deployment

The arc from 2017 to 2026 shows Trump, who once taunted an eclipse, is now practicing the deployment of eclipse-like sweeps of power. And in chilling simultaneity there are other powers that are unleashing similar agendas.

We see it in the Rhetorical Eclipses—branding dissenters as "lunatic" to cast them out of the nest. And we see it in the State Imposed Eclipsation—the total internet blackout in Iran designed to hide the fall of "The Tower."

The Synthesis of Shadow

The true power of the "unblinking eye" is that it doesn't just dominate by force; it dominates by defining reality. It decides what is "reasonable" and what is "absurd." When the Hegemon stares at the sun, he is marking territory. He wants to decide who gets to stay in the light of his brand of faux gold and the rest get bullied into the darkness.

Not awesome. However, eclipses are associated with the fall of kings just as much as they are with the rise of regimes. Awareness is essential. We continue to watch the patterns—in the stars and on the ground—because the puzzle pieces are still emerging.

The story is far from over.
